People magazine named Hugh Jackman the Sexiest Man Alive. Show us who you think should hold that title.
Oh, I don't know. I don't care much, honestly. Plus, my answer would probably change from moment to moment. At this moment, for example, it would have to be Daniel Craig because I re-watched Casino Royale last week in anticipation of seeing the new Bond film in the theatres sometime soon, and the commercial for the movie just played on the television, and well, he's just too cool for school.
But the only reason I even clicked on this vox hunt to reply to it is because I went to see what other voxers uploaded in reply to the vox hunt, and went scrolling through photos. There were all the predictable ones... George Clooney, Johnny Depp, various real-life boyfriends and husbands. And some less predictable ones, whose names I don't even know, like some boy that looks like a girl, and Ryan Gosling, and even Michael Douglas.
But I don't know... I did a double-take when I spotted this one.
Yeah, a double-take. A very unpleasant kind of double-take. Is it just me, or is the guy who does the voice of Melman just not in the same category as the rest? In fact this photo just bothers me, in the same way it would bother me to see my great uncle mac in the same pose. It's not that he's unattractive, he's just... Ross, Melman, someone's goofy annoying brother. Sexy? I'm just not feeling it.
In the same way you might take a drink of cool water after tasting something you don't really enjoy, I'm going to cleanse my visual palate with this:
Show us the cartoon character that annoys you the most.
I don't watch a lot of cartoons, but without a doubt:
I know she's cool, I know kids like her, I know she solves problems and uses her brain and isn't too ditzy. I know she teaches kids Spanish and other useful things. I know there are many more terrible role models out there for young children, particularly girls.
But oh, that voice... that loud, strident, annoying voice.... Even just responding to this qotd will have that voice playing in my head for days.
Show us a gadget you can't live without.
I'm a little embarrassed to admit it, but there you go.
This little baby got me through a lot of long middle-of-the-night nursing sessions with my daughter, and is now doing the same for me with my son. It helped me go to sleep without losing my mind when my dad was going through some health issues last year.
Totally low-tech, geared towards kids, and perhaps makes me the laughingstock of real gamers, but it's so small and portable, quick-starting, doesn't make me want to throw up like most other video games, and just ideal for my needs.
Show us a great workout video or DVD.
I haven't worked out to an exercise video in a long time, so these aren't exactly the newest, hottest things, I'm sure, but there are a few that I recall liking.
Some of the old The Firm workouts are great. I prefer the older ones or the ones that don't require any equipment other than some free weights - I particularly hate it when they want you to buy their equipment. It's also a laugh to have these women wearing what look like old-fashioned bathing suits with panty hose and speaking breathily to me as if they work for a phone sex hotline.
I prefer the fat-burning yoga workout on this dvd. I'm the furthest thing from a yogi that could exist on earth, so I assume that hardcore yoga folks would find this one lame. But for me, it provided a good workout. The instructor is clear and likeable, and hell... any workout that ends up with the instructor giving you permission to lie on the floor and
Again, I don't know a thing about kickboxing, but I like this as a good workout video. It does provide modifiers, but I found when I was at my least fit (actually, I'm at my least fit NOW) it was on the challenging side. But it's so fun, and Keith Cook's presence on the video makes it seem less wannabe. Again, no equipment needed. Ideal for those who have something against Billy Blanks and tae bo.
I'm really done, but how can I end without mentioning good ol' Tamilee Webb and her Buns/Abs of Steel videos. I haven't done a lot of them, and even the ones I've done I haven't done a lot (perhaps as evidenced by my lack of steely buns and abs), but they're just so classic. Although how someone who puts out a line of exercise videos targeting the abs can go through at least one of said videos saying "addominals" over and over again is beyond me.

Video: What is your favorite children's movie?
Submitted by I-Luv-Eeyore.
After many (many many) years without seeing it, I watched it with my daughter recently and it brought back those memories.
It was interesting to realise what I'd forgotten (was the b&w part at the beginning always so long?), or hadn't ever noticed in the first place (Dorothy apparently comes from the same planet that all the characters from Grease are from... where people look 10-20 years older than they actually are supposed to be.).
But overall, I had a great time watching, it really held up.
Book: Show us a book that made you laugh out loud.
Submitted by Red Pen.
Overall, I preferred his Pulitzer-winning "Empire Falls," but I'll never forget the handful of scenes in this book that had me actually laughing out loud, something I don't often do while reading.
I've tried describing them to anyone who will listen, and judging from the blank looks I get, Mr. Russo should probably pay me to stop 'promoting' his book. So instead of trying to explain the hilarious passages here, I'll just say... read this book.
Book: Show us one of your favorite works of fiction.
This novel tells the story of one family, 3 generations, over a span of 50 years. Burnard allows us to share in their happiness, anger and grief, as well as all those other parts day-to-day existence.
The simple writing can seem one-dimensional at first glance, but take a slightly closer look and all the layers of the characters, their lives, and the story open up before you in this beautiful tapestry that we call "life."
I can honestly say that this book had a strong impact on me, to the point where I think it might actually be a life-changer for me. "A Good House" is the newest addition to my list of all-time favourite books.
