Lying in bed, very late on a Saturday night, after a somewhat stressful evening.

On one side of you is your 3yo, curled on her side, one arm cuddling her beloved stuffed dog, the other stretched out to touch you.  She had a busy day, full of fun things, and is now sleeping deeply.  On the other side of you is your baby.  He's also sleeping after a day of activity - sprawled out, breathing noisily, without a care in the world.

The christmas carols from earlier in the day echo in your head, and outside the window, snow is falling - fat clumps of flakes, dropping heavily from the sky.  You can't see the ground from bed, but you know that a thick blanket of snow covers everything in sight.  Smooth, white, cleansed.  The lights of the city reflect off the clouds and the snow, bathing everything, including the bedroom, in a surprisingly bright but warm pinkish glow.

A deep, contented breath, one last glance out the window to appreciate the great light, and your eyes close as you snuggle down to sleep between the two people you love most in the world.
